Today (12 April 2016) the following statement was provided to media following the hearing of the Standards Commission for Scotland:
Gordon Watson, Chief Executive of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Authority said:
“At today’s hearing the Standards Commission found that former National Park Board member Owen McKee did breach the Park Authority’s Code of Conduct, in the matter of his share ownership in the Cononish goldmine.
“The Park Authority’s own investigation in January 2015, similarly concluded that Mr McKee had breached the code. Mr McKee sold his shares at a loss and stood down from a number of senior Board positions before resigning fully from the Board in August 2015.
“No Board decision making in respect of any planning application was compromised by Mr McKee’s shareholding, as he was not a shareholder when planning decisions were taken on the Cononish goldmine.
“The original complaint against Mr McKee also named another 15 members of the National Park Board. However, today’s report highlights the decision already taken in December by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life, which found that no other Board member acted improperly.
“Today’s hearing follows another ruling in October 2015, on a complaint made by the same complainant, which has been made public today on the website of the Commission for Ethical Standards in Public Life. In that case the complainant alleged that three Board members did not properly declare an interest in the ‘Your Park’ proposed camping management zones. However, the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life ruled that there has been no breach of conduct by any Board member.”
