Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park is a unique treasure trove of wildlife and natural beauty that provides the perfect outdoor classroom, offering fantastic opportunities to experience nature.
Outdoor learning not only enables an awareness of the natural environment – encouraging care and appreciation of it – being immersed in nature has fantastic health benefits too and can improve the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of children and adults.
At the National Park we are committed to providing a range of free outdoor learning experiences for children, young people and adults throughout Scotland and our outdoor learning programme links directly in to the Curriculum for Excellence.
We also provide an educational travel grant which helps schools and groups that would otherwise struggle with the cost of getting to the National Park, come and experience outdoor learning.
Between April 2014 and March 2015, the National Park:
In addition to this we have a strong partnership with the John Muir Award which is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. It encourages awareness and responsibility for the natural environment, in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration. Our two year partnership with the John Muir Award has resulted in 1,417 Awards achieved in the National Park with 26% of these awards representing groups which support disadvantage.
